LONG-TERM BIODIVERSITY DYNAMICS OF ISLAND FLORA AND FAUNA

We are advertising a fully funded Severo Ochoa PhD position (starting January 2026 or soon after) at CREAF (Bellaterra, Barcelona), focusing on long-term biodiversity dynamics of island flora and fauna.

This PhD project is based on a large database that integrates fossil pollen and faunal records from islands. These datasets offer broad spatial and temporal coverage, allowing the investigation of ecological dynamics over the last ~11,700 years across diverse island environments. The project involves statistical analysis in R and may include complementary fieldwork, laboratory techniques, and museum-based research.

Requirements: MSc in biology, environmental sciences, or a related field; strong analytical skills; and good programming experience in R (or willingness to learn it).
